Tyre Safety Tips

1 in 8 cars on Irish roads have tyres below the legal tread limit.  What does this mean? These cars can take twice as long to stop as those on new tyres.  The difference in stopping distance can be the difference between life and death.   Don't wait for a crash to find out!! Let CostPlusTyres check your tyres today for FREE. We will check and advise you on the condition and the correct replacement of your tyres. We provide a one-stop shop for all your tyre needs as apart from carrying an extensive range of tyres at very competitive prices we also carry out:

  * Computerised 4 Wheel Alignment

Tyre Tread Measurements
Tyres are measured by taking three readings across the width of the tyre starting with the outside tread depth measurement. There can be a wide variation in the readings signifying different things. For example, a reading of 7,5,3 may indicate the need for a four-wheel alignment check.

  * MAXIMUM TYRE TREAD = 8mm
  * MINIMUM LEGAL LIMIT = 1.6mm*
  * RECOMENDED MINIMUM TREAD = 3mm
  * Centre 75% of the breadth and around entire circumference OM
Remember your tyres may be considered unroadworthy for reasons other than tread depth, such as cuts, cracks or bulges! Apart from the safety considerations, driving with unsafe tyres leaves you open to prosecution and fines by the Garda Siochana.

DON'T LET YOUR TYRES LET YOU DOWN! GET THEM CHECKED NOW AT COSTPLUSTYRES
